Waiting for the price drop on iPod Touch before you buy? Maybe you’re interested in the MackBook Air, but can’t justify the $1700 price? Get out that checkbook because that joyful experience of bringing home a new Apple product could be right around the corner…

The good folks at ZDNet think the lower prices are coming!

When the 3G iPhone price was announced, I thought Apple would lower the price of the iPod Touch as well. That didn’t happen.

Phone companies like AT&T are paying the difference on the iPhone because they’ll make up that money over the life of the cell & internet contract.

I don’t think many business are willing to eat some of the cost on an iPod Touch – and get nothing in return.

The good news is that Apple has been kicking major ass in Mac, iPhone and iPod sales and they might take advantage of having extremely hot products.

Some analyst from Piper Jaffray said he thinks Apple wants to switch up their scheme and focus on volume and less on profit – which could mean cheaper iPods and Mac computers.

He says that Apple may lower the cost of some iPods and and some of the Macs – Maybe a $999 MacBook (how awesome would that be?). That way, Apple can sell more products and gain a huge chunk of the market.

Is The Price Cut For Real?

All of this is just a guess based on Apple’s recent comments and really, really smart people analyzing those comments. And loser, fanboys like me blogging about it!

Like Larry Dignan said, “If you’re in the market for an Apple iPod or notebook a little procrastination may not hurt given the company’s comments.”

UPDATE: More blogs jumping on the Apple price cut bandwagon. Alleyinsider.com is reporting that Apple sent a message to it’s shareholders about next year’s profits. They warned shareholders that next year’s profits may not be as high, but gave no good reason why. AND that’s after Apple announced it had been kicking butt in sales recently. The idea is to slash the prices and make a run at the big PC makers Dell and HP.

Apparently Mindset Media did a personality profile of 7,500 Applesluts at Macworld and found that Apple users “are more liberal, less modest, and more assured of their own superiority than the population at large.”

They didn’t say if they’d found a causal relationship.

It seems Apple-love correlates to high openness, low dogmatism, low modesty, and high superiority.

Okay, I get the shameless and open-minded part, but I was a little disturbed by the superiority thing until I read their description:

You are an extraordinary person and are comfortable proclaiming your accomplishments from the mountaintops.

I had a fortune cookie the other night that said the same thing.

They also said people like us “seek rich, varied and novel experiences, believing that imagination and intellectual curiosity contribute to a life well lived. They are receptive to their own inner feelings and may feel both happiness and unhappiness more intensely than others.”

Kind of sounds like the Applesluts’ credo, don’t it?

iPhone 1.1.3, iTunes movie rentals, MacBook Air. It’s enough to make an AppleSlut’s heart flutter.

I know. I said what I really wanted was a greener Apple. And that’s true. But he did that too.

Not that he came out and announced that they’re making green their Priority One. But he made it clear that it’s part of their algorithm now. It’s part of how they do what they do.

Here’s what he said: The MacBook Air (which, by the way, iWant) has Apple’s first mercury- and arsenic-free display, as well as bromide- and PVC-free circuit boards. The all-aluminum case is good for recycling, and they’ve made a 50% reduction in retail packaging. Stevie, you sweet-talker, you.

My other two favorite keynote moments: Gotta love the bit with the manilla envelope.

Plus, guest performer Randy Newman’s quote (after playing “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”):

I’ll always root against corporations because that’s the way I am. But not this one; this one’s different.

Dude. It’s true.

So tomorrow’s the big day, the beginning of the high holidays for the Applesluts of the world. What new wonders will be revealed?

Those making the pilgrimage to San Francisco’s Moscone Center for Macworld Expo (January 15th to 18th) will no doubt be rewarded for their devotion. From the dazzle of the exhibit halls to the schmoozy Birds-of-a-Feather meetings, from the hot-ticket Hands-on MacLabs to the guided tours and the Best of Show Awards, there will be enough cool shit to look at and play with to inspire even the most jaded among us.

Not to mention the synergistic potential of 40,000 or so tech-heads converging in a frenzy of techno-splendor. The vast chorus of ringtones alone should be worth the price of admission.

But of course the Big Moment, the event that has us holding our collective breath, is the word handed down from the high priest himself. At 9:00 tomorrow morning, our man Steve will deliver his keynote address and reveal what’s in store for us in 2008. (Check out Engadget’s live coverage)

Rumors and speculation abound, of course. Could anything possibly have the same impact as the iPhone last year?

Tall order.

The consensus seems to be that he’s likely to unveil an ultra-portable MacBook. Movie rental through iTunes is also a strong possibility.

Good, yeah, sure, fine. Cool, I suppose, but whatever.

Know what I want? A greener Apple.

Yeah, I know. It’s kind of like “What do you want for Christmas?” “World peace.” And not that he’s asking me anyway.

But what I want more than anything is for the man to walk out on that stage and announce that starting today, every product Apple makes will be greener, way greener, than the money I plunk down to buy it. Greener than green.

Today, not next year. He made a good start with his Greener Apple initiative in May. But how about this: How about starting today, Apple turns its legendary ingenuity toward creating a truly green technology company. Starting today, Apple becomes the kind of visionary leader we know it can be. (Check out Greenpeace’s call-to-action.)

I love Apple. And I want it to be a company I can get behind all the way. I want them to use the leadership they’ve rightly earned to do the right thing, and do it big, do it with vision. Give us some of that good ol’ time Apple religion, Steve.

Reinvent the color green.

So, okay, I told you mine. What’s on your wish list?
