My iPhone Touch is Screen Broken!

Today, my iPhone stopped responding to my tender, loving touch. Not completely, but just in a “special” above the waist line. I can imagine my iPhone shouting “Don’t touch me there” as I gently swipe my finger from left to right across its trim midsection.

Every time I touch the phone in the yellow area, I get no response – it’s like my iPhone doesn’t even recognize me anymore… It’s a difficult time for an Apple Slut.

I’ve erased the phone, deleted all the apps, restored the phone, restarted the phone a dozen times and nothing!

We’ll be starting our counseling… I mean, going to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store tomorrow morning. Hopefully, we can work this out.

Good news – the Apple Store hooked me up!

Last night, when my iPhone touch screen took a digital dump, I jumped on Apple.com and made an appointment at the Genius Bar for this morning.

I knew my warranty was up last month, so I had already prepared myself mentally for the bad news AND the inevitable purchase of the 3G iPhone. (And the higher monthly bill.)

Got to the Genius Bar and the… Genius(?) was awesome. He knew exactly what the problem was and that it couldn’t be fixed – this was a good thing.

He went through the usual restart, reformat, restore steps just to make sure my iPhone was totally screwed.

“Yep, your phone needs to be replaced” he said. “Did you know your warranty expired 22 days ago?”

“Yes I did. Crap.” I said, thinking about the hit to my wallet.

“Don’t worry, I’ll replace it anyway since you’re so close to the end of the warranty.”

My knees wobbled as I heard those words… I love you Apple.

And true to form, he wrote everything up and gave me a document with the details on it. Unfortunately, they didn’t have a replacement for my old, 1st gen 4GB iPhone so he sent me to the nearest store.

My chances for a smooth replacement dropped by 50%. A new store and a different Genius? What if the new Genius isn’t as cool and won’t gimme my new iPhone?

I was sweating as I drove across town…

The next Genius was NOT as cool as the first. He looked like a prick too. And as I waited for my turn, the manager made an employee cry – No Joke!

I thought “Great. This store is very different from the other store. I’m screwed.”

“Did they tell you the warranty had expired?” He asked immediately.

“Yes, but he said that THEY would replace it, but they didn’t have any more 4GB phones. So he sent me here.” I said.

“Hmmm… Let me go in the back and call the other store – just to see what he had in mind. I’ll be back in a couple minutes.” He said, walking away with his back to me.

Totally screwed.

I waited for 2 hours… Not really, but it felt like it took that long. Probably about 10 minutes.

Genius #2 came back to the table and said “OK, let’s get your new iPhone setup.”

I hugged him… No, that didn’t happen. But I would have.

A few minutes later I was on my way home – with a brand spankin new iPhone!

Thank you Apple and Genius Bar Crew. I’d totally make out with you.
