Free iPhone Ringtones

To make free iPhone Ringtones you have to be using a Mac because you’ll need GarageBand. Sorry Windows users. And this is not some hack or illegal procedure. In fact, Apple posted an article about this last month.

Here’s how to create your own free iPhone Ringtones:

* Special Note: this feature is fantastic, I love it. However, when you create ringtones for your iPhone this way, you may notice that the quality of the audio is not that great. It’s good, but not as good as ringtones I’ve purchased from the iTunes Store.

1 ) Pop open GarageBand and select “Create New Podcast Episode” as shown in the image below:

2 ) In the “Media Browser” on the right side of GarageBand, make sure you’ve selected “Audio” at the top and “iTunes” just below.

This will display all of the music in your iTunes library. Remember ANY song can be converted into a ringtone for your iPhone – Even if you didn’t purchase it from iTunes Store.

3 ) Next, find the song you’d like to use as the iPhone ringtone. Now just drag that song into the area marked “Drag Apple Loops Here” and release – Just like the image below:

4 ) Now you get to select the part of the song you want to use. You’ll can only use up to 30 seconds of the song. To do this, you have to turn on the “cycle region” feature by clicking the arrows button next to the timer. See the image below:

5 ) To select your loop for the ringtone, you can drag the yellow, cycle region bar in the timeline. You can click and drag the middle to move the entire bar OR you can just drag one end to lengthen and shorten the bar as needed. This area will be your new iPhone ringtone, so take the time to make it perfect.

6 ) Now you’re ready to convert the song into a ringtone! In the top menu, click on “Share” and then “Send Ringtone to iTunes.” The section of the song you chose will now be converted into an iPhone ringtone and sent into iTunes.

7 ) Bingo! iTunes should have opened and started playing your new ringtone. If not, just open iTunes and select ringtones from the Library menu. You should see all of your iPhone ringtones and can now edit the file names and sync to your iPhone!

That’s all there is to creating an endless supply of free iPhone ringtones.

And don’t think you’re stuck with just music either. You could record your own voice, your dog barking or the sound of you clapping your hands. Anything will work as long as you’ve got a way to get it into GarageBand. Go nuts.
