3G iPhone Battery is Dead, Dead, Dead.

Walt Mossberg reported a shorter 3G iPhone battery life when he started testing the phone a few weeks ago. He said it doesn’t last as long as the original iPhone and recommended keeping an extra cord at work so it won’t die in the middle of your day.

Just this morning, a friend of mine on Plurk (a social media website) said “low battery on the iPhone! After a few hours using it to play a full music album, and doing some browsing stuffs (with wifi and 3G)…”

And many more 3G owners on Plurk are pissed about the short battery life as well.

What Does Apple Recommend for Battery Life

Apple’s website offers these helpful tips to extend the battery life:

  1. Turn off 3G! Really? Isn’t that one of the main selling points of  the “3G” iPhone? Ouch
  2. Turn off Wi-Fi: However, Apple states “Note that if you frequently use your iPhone to browse the web, battery life may be improved by using Wi-Fi instead of cellular data networks.” – What?!!?
  3. Turn off the EQ: In iTunes AND on your 3G iPhone.
  4. Turn the 3G iPhone OFF. That way you’re iPhone battery will NEVER die!

I totally made up #4, but it seems logical after reading the entire list of  “Optimize Your Settings” at Apple.com.
